Seattle Bindery Newsletter: Issue #6. We welcome your comments.

1. Hold on to your remote control . . . Gemstar International Group, which last year acquired TV Guide Inc., added two new companies to its acquisitions roster . . . NuvoMedia and SoftBook Press, leading contenders in the e-books battle. According to Gemstar president Henry C. Yuen, he likes the e-book market because his company will be able to combine elements of TV technology with e-book devices, allowing readers to use pagers to order e-books!

2. Fascinating website statistics. If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) doesn’t provide monthly visitor reports, there are other providers that do. Seattle Bindery uses Winstar web hosting (www.nwnexus.com), which gives us all sorts of interesting reports, like the sections on our site that are attracting the most attention and where visitors are coming from. (I’m always amazed that Seattle Bindery’s site draws visitors from around the world!) There are others, too, that provide these reports. If you’d like some suggestions, give me a call.

3. Seattle Bindery now has four Heidelberg cylinder presses capable of diecutting, scoring and perforating press sheets of up to 35-inches and nearly any stock weight. So keep us in mind when that next presentation folder job comes around or any other job that requires a diecut, score or perforation.

4. Bad news for some consolidators: Consolidated Graphics’ stock fell from a 52-week high of $72 to a 52-week low of $12.94. And, after posting worse than expected 4th Quarter losses, Mastergraphics’ common stock was delisted from the NASDAQ at close of business on January 21, 2000. While my favorite industry pundit, IAPHC president Kevin Keane, warns us against thinking these are signs the consolidation trend will simply go away, they may give others cause for pause.

5. Two more of those “I didn’t know you did that” instances happened last week, when we ran two jobs using Kleenstick (two-sided peel and stick tape).  We applied the Kleenstick in a “U” shape on one 4-panel, closed gate-fold and one strip on a second 5-panel, closed gate-fold which were folded on one of our 3 new MBO state-of-the art folders . . . now at your service
