Bindery Newsletter: Issue #5. We welcome your comments.
1.
More e-publishing pearls . . . Check out www.fatbrain.com. It'll give you a good
peek into the future. Not only can you print on-demand technical documentation
from Sun, SAP and Novell, you can also get your own documents published on the
site. Simply register, set your price, and upload. You even keep the copyright
and get critical reviews from readers. So all those who’ve dreamed of writing
the Great American novel, there’s no better time than now.
2.
We’ve had great response to our monthly box lunch tours of our new plant. If
you’d like a free box lunch from Briazz and a chance to see our letterpress,
tabbing and bindery operations in action, just give us a call. We’ll be happy
to set up a time that’s convenient for you.
3.
Despite the Internet, or maybe because of it, paper consumption is expected to
continue growing at 3% to 5% per year. Why? All those dot-coms have to promote
their on-line services to all those off-line consumers. And all the online
orders have to get shipped in boxes, the insides of which promise all sorts of
marketing opportunities, which means opportunities for us all.
4.
Don’t forget we’re the only shop in town offering comprehensive bindery,
tabbing and finishing operations . . . all under one roof! From perfect and
mechanical bindings to custom tabs and foil stamping, embossing and diecutting,
Seattle Bindery does it all.
5.
Catalogs are thriving despite the Internet, according to recent post holiday
statistics. Williams-Sonoma sent out 16 percent more catalogs this year than
last, Wine.com mailed a 16-page catalog for the first time this year, and
Lands’ End is introducing complimentary catalogs in overseas markets where
it’s launching websites. The reason? Print still drives consumer buying,
whether it’s getting them to the stores or onto the Web.
