Bindery Newsletter: Issue #3. We welcome your comments.
1. Well, heres the other side of the e-books controversy. Despite
consumers apparent reluctance to embrace digital books, students at the
University of Texas in Austin are happily buying them up. According to the NY
Times, the university has a $1 million budget to increase its collection
of digital books. Others jumping onto the book conversion bandwagon in a big
way: netLibrary, Random House, Barnes and Noble, Simon & Schuster and, of
course, our very own Microsoft.
2. We still get the "Oh, we didnt know you did that!" regarding our
tabbing services. So heres a reminder: We do tabs! Plain tabs,
Mylar-reinforced tabs, color-coded tabs, and banked and overlapping tab sets.
Give us a call. We can help you determine which is best for your customers
projects.
3. In its most recent Fast Facts e-newsletter, TrendWatch posits this question
regarding Internet printing services: "Printers dont buy new technology
until they first lose business to it. For decades, this cautious view has saved
them billions in mis-spent investments . . . We wonder,
though, if todays Internet time will be another barrier for
printers?" Wheres our
crystal ball when we need it!
4. If you havent gotten one of our Foil Selector Guides, give us a call. We
produced the Guides to help you help your customers select the right foil for
their jobs. Selections include samples of gold, pearlescent and special order
foils such as holographic and marbleized designs.
5. Tooting our horn a little, The International Association of Printing House
Craftsmen bestowed a Bronze Award on Seattle Binderys corporate identity
package in its recent Gallery of Superb Printing awards. Our thanks to Printing
Control and The Copy Company for their work on the project.
From all of us at Seattle Bindery, have a happy and safe holiday season and a
very happy New Year!
