Upper & Lower Case
In one of her frequent tweets, Sandy Hubbard (@sandyhubbard) recently mentioned that she was very fond of the Upper & Lower Case publication that went out of print in 1999. She discovered, however, that back issues are now available as searchable pdf files. I personally had not seen the magazine, but I know of others who, like Sandy, also thought highly of it. So I thought this link would be something our industry might like to have available. Check it out here.

EFI Conference
Anyone who uses one of the EFI family of print management programs (Monarch, Hagen, Logic, PSI, Printsmith, and Pace, among others) will want to give serious thought to attending the 12th Annual Users’ Conference that’s scheduled for April 26 - 29, 2011 at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. I have attended these off and on over many years and have never failed to come home with useful ideas and contacts. The EFI folks really knock themselves out for this event, including providing technical information, peer networking, demo labs for other products, and one-on-one time with senior management. We tried putting together local users’ conferences for the PSI program we run, but those efforts fizzled after EFI cut back their support staff. This is a much better alternative. April is not far off, so you can begin your planning here.

Lucky Stars, er... Static
Congratulations to the two winners of last month’s newsletter contest. We asked for input on the local UV coating market and got over 100 responses. Wow! Thanks to all who participated, and congratulations to the winners: Janice Wisman of McCallum Print Group and Brad Thompson of National Color. Now, about that static reference - this is funny. I wanted to ensure the winners were selected completely at random, so I went online and found this website that does it for you. You enter starting and ending numbers and the site then uses atmospheric noise to generate true random numbers. The winners can forget lucky stars and be grateful for that atmospheric static! If you ever need randomization help, check out the site here.

UV Coater Open for Business!
We completed testing on our new 30" UV roller coater and it’s performing like a champ! We successfully ran offset sheets up to 28" x 40" and all the digital sheets from press manufacturers that we could get our hands on. Each run turned out an excellent gloss coating finish. Our coater has a crusher unit on it that removes unwanted press powder, which eliminates the need for an extra pass on your press. It also has an extended chiller unit to ensure the sheets have cooled sufficiently before stacking. We have an introductory pricing model in place that should make us very competitive. Let us know when your next flood coating job comes up and we'll send one of our trucks out for our standard free pick up and delivery. Oh, and Jenny will be happy to quote the job for you, as well.

Social Media in 3 Minutes
I know that many of us are behind the curve on using social media as a business development tool, so I thought this might be of value. I found this link in my clicking travels ... It’s a three-minute video that walks the novice through the current cluttered social media landscape. If you are like me, you are still fumbling to find useful social media sites hiding among all the puff and nonsense floating around out there. Click here, you can spend three minutes to get a little better grasp on the online social media world.
