Seattle Bindery Newsletter: Issue #2

1. Whew! We just completed a challenging project, producing 25,000 Wire-O books that entailed diecutting, folding and gluing. Just a little reminder that you can get it all from Seattle Bindery, all under one roof!

2. While prices for e-books go down, the debate surrounding their future gets hotter. According to a recent story in the NY Times, "analysts say that existing e-books are selling poorly because consumers are satisfied with the old-fashioned reading experience." On the other side of the coin, RR Donnelley is teaming with Microsoft to expand its e-book business. Hmmm. Maybe this is a solution trying to find a problem?

3. With the giftgiving season upon us, how about we all buy some of those good old-fashioned books to give to family and friends. In our own small way, we’ll reaffirm our support of our industry and those book printers (and binderies?) among us.

4. I’m often asked why we moved to our new location in south Seattle. The decision was based on several factors: Our customers were roughly split between the two areas. The market in the south is definitely on the upswing. And, last but definitely not least, the efficiencies gained by moving into a facility custom-designed for us pushed the pro-the-move argument over the top.

5. Here’s another website worth checking out: www.printable.com. It’s tailored to printers and offers such worthwhile items as TrendWatch Forecast 2000 Report and a (very long, but worthwhile) piece by Alex Hamilton entitled "The Economics of CTP."
