Bindery Newsletter: Issue #19. We welcome your comments.
1. Dot-com summary: I recently received a very illuminating summary of all the
major print dot-commers, which was compiled and published by On-Demand
Business editor Noel Jeffrey, who often leads panels and workshops on the
topic. If you’d like to receive a copy, just let us know and we’ll fax it to
you. You can also find a number of articles about print dot-commers and how the
Internet is changing the face of printing on the Forbes Magazine website, www.Forbes.com.
What a refreshing change to see the financial press taking notice of our
industry.
2. Just goes to show: We recently took one of our long-term customers on his
first tour of our “new” plant. Well aware of our folding and bindery
capabilities, he was surprised to discover our large, custom tab production
department. So forgive me if I sound like a broken record: Don’t forget we
custom cut, reinforce, collate, drill and ship tab orders, large and small. And
don’t forget that we invite one and all to tour our facility. We even include
a free box lunch from Briazz.
3. Scary stats: By now, most of us have heard about the unprecedented
e-publishing success of Stephen King’s new novel, which generated over half a
million downloads on the first day. And we’ve been watching the Napster saga
unfold as Generation “E” (for electronic) and the Establishment duke it out
over copyright infringement. Bottom line, we should all be thinking about the
potential impact these developments may have on our industry. Future success of
paper and ink suppliers and printers as well as publishers will all be
influenced by these developments.
4. Pick up and delivery service: Some of you may not know that we have three
trucks with drivers available for free local pick ups and deliveries. Just call
our main number. We’ll also deliver finished jobs to your local clients. Call
us to arrange a schedule.
5. Hot ideas, cold drinks: Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for
feedback on managing summer vacation time. I had to make a second trip to
Starbucks for more coupons! Your comments were insightful and I may implement an
idea or two.
