1. Feedback Request. Our Heidelberg Quickbinder is up and running. It's great for perfect-bound runs of up to 500 pre-collated books, or for mock-ups, presentations, trial samples, or other last-minute, short-run needs. The Quickbinder can produce hinged scores and it provides glue control so glue traps are no longer mandatory (though still recommended.) It runs coated and uncoated stocks with equal ease, and it accepts digital printing. We're excited to get this baby humming so we're offering special introductory pricing. Give us a call and start giving your customers the option of short-run, perfect-bound jobs today.

2. Call Me Anytime. It recently came to my attention that a long-time industry observer declared he didn't want to own a cell phone. I agree with the sentiment that technology in general-cell phones, in particular-can be intrusive. But it seems if customers expect us to adopt certain communication technologies, we ought to do it. I just can't imagine telling a customer in a jam that we don't provide employees the right technology to solve a crisis at hand. If you don't want a cell phone for personal use, I understand. But in our customer-driven market place, you should have one for work.

3. From Russia With Love. The American Printer case study that featured the Seattle Bindery eyelet bound spinning wheels we mentioned a few months back has made its way around the globe. Check out the Russian translation click here. To compare it to the English version, click here. It's pretty cool, though, as none of us speaks Russian, we can only hope it's accurate.

4. Lead(er). Does your sales force know the difference between a sales inquiry and a lead? Target Marketing has an interesting article that maps out the process of qualifying sales leads. The first step, according to the article, is to actually define the term "lead" with your sales, marketing, and management teams. By getting everyone on the same page, your sales force can increase its efficiency by expending energy on prospects with real potential instead of chasing after every single person who's made contact. Once you all agree on what constitutes a lead, set up a process for qualifying them prior to giving them to the sales force. For more, click here.

5. Brrrrr. Cold enough for you? The recent spate of wicked winter weather has snarled traffic and left a blanket of white throughout the Northwest. When the weather gets this bad it's important to tell your drivers to be extra cautious, and to warn customers that deliveries might arrive a bit late. Business is important, but it's not worth life and limb. Customers will understand that. So be safe out there and stay warm.
