Bindery Newsletter: Issue #17. We welcome your comments.
1. Web-based supply chain services are the hottest new B2B internet topic. The
5/16/00 issue of WSJ reports that General Motors and Reynolds & Reynolds are
partnering to “wire dealers, envisioning a world where consumers would be able
to select and configure a car online, and work with a dealer to complete the
purchase and feed the order to the factory.” Rumor has it that Chevron is in
the process of “wiring” their convenience stores in much the same way.
Meanwhile I await printCafé’s solution to the issue of hooking up printers to
their trade partners.
2. Some of you may have seen the little extra embellishment we added to our
business cards and other stationery items. An embossed metallic silver logo has
been added to our corporate identity system to showcase our foil stamping and
embossing capabilities. Our letterpress operation boasts a full complement of
platen presses and cylinder diecutters, including our new 29-inch x 41-inch
Johannisberg diecutter. Keep us in mind when customers ask for those special
finishing touches.
3. I had to laugh after reading “It’s the Customer, Stupid,” an article in
the May 2000 issue of Software Magazine. I love it! These Web-wizards think
they’ve just discovered the secret, but we’ve known for centuries that
positive customer relationships are the key to long-term success. While many
heavyweights like Microsoft, Oracle and Siebel, are trying to automate these
relationships, the personal touch is still most effective. In-person visits, a
solutions-driven philosophy and on-going communication will continue to make the
difference.
4. Don’t forget that our website, www.seattlebindery.com,
offers useful finishing, tabbing and folding information, including diagrams to
help you and your customers plan layouts. For diagrams of a simple four-page
fold to accordian folds and imposition of multiple page booklets, check out the
Binding Relationships section of our site.
5. Many of you have commented on our on-hold messages. While I don’t like
putting anyone on hold, there are the rare occasions when it’s necessary. And
in those instances, I’d prefer callers listen to instructive material rather
than radio station ads. Call Paul McCarthy at 425-398-9541 to find out what’s
entailed to get phone-on-hold messages installed on your company’s phone
system. We’ve found these to be an inexpensive, yet effective marketing tool.
