Seattle Bindery Tackles the Impossible

The case study below describes a particularly challenging Seattle Bindery project. We hope you find it interesting and instructive. If you have questions about the equipment, techniques, or other details of the project, feel free to call us at 425-656-8210.

When Seattle Bindery received seven full-sized skids of a job to finish holiday gift certificate cards, production manager Bill Davey took a deep breath. He had promised a three-day turnaround to begin delivering 35,000 of the more than 240,000 finished pieces. And this was just the first shipment.

The schedule was already off track: Artwork for the project had been delivered late to the printer, and the printer later had concerns about color quality. So meeting the customer's deadline now rested with the Seattle Bindery team. To diecut, score, fold, and apply Kleenstick to 240,000 coated, cover stock cards would require overtime and precise equipment scheduling.

"The client chose us because no one else in our market can perform all of these finishing operations under one roof," explains Seattle Bindery’s President, Milt Vine. "Of course, our ability to do them with such efficiency so as to make up lost time is an added bonus."

The full-size parent sheets were diecut, scored, and trimmed. The Kleenstick tape was then applied and, finally, the pieces were completed on our state-of-the-art MBO folders. Davey says, "Our customer was extremely pleased with our fast turnaround, so much so that he's asked us to finish another 150,000 cards before the holidays. We've fine-tuned the process so well, this run should be a piece of cake."
