Seattle Bindery Brochure Wins BIA Award

(Seattle, WA April 20, 1998) — Seattle Bindery has won a 1998 BIA Award of Merit, presented annually by the Bindery Institute of America for creativity in design and production. "We’re proud of the honor," says Seattle Bindery President Milt Vine. "The prize was awarded to our company brochure, purposefully designed to be innovative and make use of our many capabilities."

Bound with both Wire-OŽ and plastic spiral coil, the four-color brochure is an oblong when opened that measures only 8.5" tall and 10" wide. The piece features complex diecutting, unusual tabbing, sample Mylar colors and intricate cross-over registration, as well as copy about Seattle Bindery.

"It was an interesting project," says designer Ayo Seligman of Ideograf Creative Services. "The challenge was to showcase Seattle Bindery’s capabilities at the time. It’s great that BIA believes we met that challenge successfully." The design firm is currently working on additional pages, including an insert with embossing and foil stamping examples, since Seattle Bindery recently acquired these new capabilities.

According to BIA, more than 200 entries were accepted in trade bindery categories for this year’s competition. All entries were manufactured in-house. Photos of the winners will appear in the May issue of Binding Edge Magazine.
